Fontavio was born from Lense's founder's experience of living in a van around Europe. Most travel apps focus on finding places to park or sleep, but sleeping spots aren't always what you need, especially in areas where locals prefer visitors not to linger. The most important daily routine was finding water, a toilet, or a shower. Because there was no dedicated app for just quick water service stops, Fontavio was created. By stripping away overnight parking, it maps significantly more water-related services in one place, making it useful for all travellers and locals on the move.

Places come from OpenStreetMap, national and municipal open data, and the people using the app, who add missing places, fix wrong details and confirm that a place still works.

How it is built
The app is written in Flutter, with one codebase for Android and iPhone. The back end is Python (FastAPI) with PostgreSQL and PostGIS, on a server in Germany. fontavio.com is a static Astro site on Cloudflare Pages, with a dedicated page for every city that has enough places mapped.
Fontavio is built with AI agents. The agents write code and tests based on detailed plans and tickets, and every change is reviewed and manually tested on devices before it ships. AI also assists in moderating the data added by users.

Is the water at a Fontavio drinking water point safe to drink?
Fontavio does not test water. A drinking water label reflects what open data or another user has reported, and water that is not for drinking can be marked separately.
Does Fontavio work offline?
Partly, for free: areas you have already viewed stay cached for a while, so the map keeps working during short outages. With Fontavio Pro, you can download a specific area, base map included, so it works completely without a signal.
